Joint ECDC EFSA EMA report on antimicrobial resistance

A first joint report of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on the integrated analysis of the consumption of antimicrobial agents and occurrence of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from humans and food-producing animals has been published.

This report explores possible associations on antimicrobial consumption and corresponding resistance in animals and humans for EU MSs and reporting countries using 2011 and 2012

European Union Summary Report on antimicrobial resistance published

On 25 March 2014 EFSA and ECDC published The European Union Summary Report on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food 2012. This report contains information on Salmonella, Campylobacter, E coli indicator bacteria and Staphyloccus aureus with data from 26 EU countries. It marks the EU ongoing activities to reduce antimicrobial resistance  and to move ahead with more harmonised recording of  antimicrobial resistance.

Salmonella and Campylobacter were the most common sources of zoonotic foodborn infections.
