Conformity assessment for vet- and food labs
Country: Swaziland
Client: UNIDO
Duration: 12 months
For UNIDO, VetEffecT performed a conformity assessment of the central
veterinary laboratory and food science laboratories in Swaziland.
The purpose of the assignment was to increase compliance to international standards for animal
health, in particular the transboundary animal diseases (TADs) and for food safety control. An
action plan that provides guidance which steps are needed in technical assistance and training and
provision of equipment was prepared. Furthermore continuation to outsource particular tests for
complex analytical methods was evaluated upon its merit.
Swaziland already has a zone in the country from which it exports meat to EU from a certified
slaughterhouse, but the country wishes to further strengthen its control and inspection network to
be in line with the WTO SPS regulations and in particular with EU legislation for promotion of trade
and export.
