Developing Guidance For Countries On An Appropriate And Useful Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Monitoring Framework
VetEffecT is conducting an AMR (antimicrobial resistance) project with Epiconcept (FR) for the WHO to develop guidance for low- and middle-income countries on monitoring progress in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in a pragmatic and sustainable way. This should include the creative use of existing and emerging data sets.
Activities include:
− To develop guidance, primarily for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), on how to develop an appropriate and useful AMR results framework/monitoring system that will, at the same time, contribute to strengthening the links between AMR and the broader health system;− Support three countries to develop a monitoring framework for their AMR national action plan. Provide remote support to an additional four countries to develop a NAP (national Action Plan monitoring framework− To identify data sources and approaches to better track how antimicrobials are used;− To identify potential country-owned targets;− To report back on the feasibility of countries collecting data on the indicators of the Tripartite M&E framework and those that are being suggested to track AMR within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The provided services are:
− Prepare three documented country reviews with NAP monitoring plans based on site visits.− Provide recommendations on how standard indicators or data systems might be adapted to generate more useful and meaningful AMR data in LMICs.− Provide generic guidance for countries on how to develop monitoring systems to track implementation of their national action plans in a One Health approach− Generate a list of sources of AMR data in existing national data collection systems.− Assess of the feasibility of countries collecting data on the indicators of the Tripartite M&E framework and those that are being suggested to track AMR within the SDGs.
